EUROPEAN UNION COUNCIL HEADQUARTERS : WINDOWS PATCHWORK. (01/494)

The various old oak windows collected from all over Europe are arranged in the 218 stainless steel façade frames on a grid resulting from the division of its 5,4m width into 2, 3 5, 7 and 11 parts (± 5%), and  its 3,54m height into 2, 3, 5, 7 parts (± 5%).

 

Figure 1 illustrate the grid,

figure 2 the drawing of the first arrangement on the grid,

figure 3 the grid and the first arrangement

figure 4 the mock-up of the first arrangement seen from outside, and figure 5 seen from inside with the supporting stainless steel straps, as inspected at the workshop this 2011-11-25,

figure 6 illustrate some of the first following patterns for the patchwork under design.

Study of the stairs in the “heart of Europe”. (01/494) - Europa Building

The staircase follows the shape of the building, elliptical in plan and curved in section, on 12 storeys. At each floor the steps are suspended to the floor above by a highly perforated steel sheet.

Lujiazhi Cultural Creativity Garden in Zhoushan
